Chengdu University Announcement: Zeng Removed from Position as Party Secretary of the College

Recently, Zeng, Party Secretary of the School of Music and Dance at Chengdu University, was accused of suspected plagiarism in his academic works and false citations in two English papers he published. On September 1, Chengdu University issued a situation notice stating that an investigation team had been established to carry out investigation work and that serious handling would be made based on the investigation results.

On September 30, Chengdu University issued a situation notice:

In response to media reports concerning suspected plagiarism in academic works by Zeng of our university's School of Music and Dance, the university attached great importance to the matter and immediately established an investigation team composed of experts from inside and outside the university to carry out verification work seriously and rigorously, and to evaluate the academic issues involved.

Upon verification, Zeng's monograph "Exploration of College Music Teaching" was found to contain multiple paragraphs overlapping with others' works, non-standard citation labeling, false labeling, and other circumstances of research misconduct; the English papers "A Music Curriculum Integration and Reconstruction Model Based on Advanced Iterative Reconstruction Algorithm" and "A Data Mining-Based Evaluation Technique for Music Teaching" were found to contain research misconduct involving citations to literature unrelated to the papers. The above circumstances constitute academic misconduct.

In accordance with relevant provisions such as the Measures for the Prevention and Handling of Academic Misconduct in Higher Education Institutions, the Rules for the Investigation and Handling of Research Misconduct, and the Interim Measures for the Supervision of Professional Title Review, the university has handled Zeng as follows: removal from the position of Party Secretary of the School of Music and Dance, revocation of his qualification for the full senior professional and technical position, cancellation of his eligibility for research project applications, job promotion, professional title evaluation, salary grade increases, awards and excellence evaluations, and other qualifications for 36 months, and entry into the database for serious research integrity misconduct. The disciplinary inspection and supervision group stationed at the university has filed a case for review.

The university adheres to a "zero tolerance" attitude in punishing academic misconduct, will take this as a warning, comprehensively strengthen research integrity education for faculty and students, deepen the development of a rigorous scholarly research style, and continue to create a clean and upright academic environment.
